traffic wardens with speed guns

today i was driving along saughton road and opposite whin park medical centre i saw what at first i thought was 2 traffic cops with a speed gun,,as i got closer i noticed it was 2 police traffic wardens standing with the gun,,one was pointing it at cars coming down from calder road and the other was standing with a clip board writing stuff down,,just wondered if someone has given traffic wardens new powers to do folk for speeding now too? i wondered if u could explain what they were doing and why they were doing it?

[Police Cruise Liaison]

Police traffic wardens were given powers and permission to carry out speed detection checks some months ago, just the same as the regular Police do. They do this on a daily basis at various locations in and around Edinburgh.
