View Full Version : Xbox.....
Hey guys,
hiting the big 25 on sunday, so my mums went out and got me an Xbox 360.
I'm getting with it Forza3, and i went oot yesterday and bought a couple of pre-owned games in the form of Smackdown 09 (canny beat a wrestling game now and again!!)
Fifa 09, and Splinter Cell Double Agent (loved this game on the PS3)
What other games would you reccommend?
Also, i dont have a web connection at home, so i'll not be going online with it...
how much can you still do with Forza offline?
Can you still etit cars etc?
with forza the game itself is huge so you'll have plenty fun with it offline but you will not be able to download new car packs.
modern warfare 2 is a great game although the game itself is fairly short lived, i completed it in 7hrs and i know people who are better than me so assuming they done it a lot quicker. its more designed with online being where the real fun is at.
ideally you need it online to get the most of it, downloading demo's etc to try games before you play.
depends what kind of games you like i suppose, i got a demo of Dante's Inferno.
basically you go into hell kicking demon ass using a scythe and a cross, graphics are shit-hot and the gameplay itself is pretty good.
its had excellent player reviews on play.com and i think its going to be my next purchase

as far as racing games go you wont get any better than forza 3, stay away from the need for speed ones (like Shift), the graphics are good but the handling of the cars is all wrong and ruined it for me.
although in saying that, Racing Driver GRID is not too bad, worth picking up seconghand i reckon.
guitar hero series, pretty sure you know about them, good bit of fun that you can play with friends
Thanks mate :)
Forgot to add my sis is getting me good old GTA 4...
so no doubt lose weeks doing all that again :)
I may well end up getting a home broadband guy eventually,
thats what i was always going to do with the PS3, used to love playin GTA4 online against my mates...
But form what i've heard from my mate at Rockstar, the online features for the Xbox are constantly changing, and getting better. Apparently they are working on new cars, and weapons etc for downloads :)
Just wait and see what happens i think.
Cheers buddy.
i thought it was just lost and dammed nd ballad of gay tony on the xox.. not the same GTA4 thats on the PS3??
didnt knwo you were only 25 aswell ya cunt.... thought you were ages with me

i have to agree with ktp Dante's Inferno is a quality game!
forza are bringing out the g.p circuit of the ring tomorrow, with more tracks to come, also stated there planning on at least on dlc pack for 12 months,
putting the xbox online opens up to a whole load of new features and makes games alot more lengthly rather than completing it and moving on,
Managed to get the Xbox last night,
sat till about half 2 this morning playing it.
Pretty impressed with it actually,
only thing i dont like is the lack of memory.
My mum got me the Arcade, which has HEE HAW memory on it.
So cant even install Disk 2 on Forza till i get a memory card.
I've done a quick Google search, and it seems a 4Gb memory card will cost about £30??
Is this about right, or can anyone suggest anywhere i'd get it cheaper?
Think thats about the size i'd need, as the Forza Disk 2 is nearly 2 Gig.
Good game overall tbough.
Getting right into the Career mode now,
only like 1% thru it or something for now,
have a few motors, Fiat 500 Abarth, C4 VTS, Alfa Brerra, Scirocco GTi, Clio V6..
And bought a 350z Last night too :)
Hopefully get a better chance to play on Monday when i'm off work..
but so far so good!
you'd be better looking for a hard drive for it, even if its just a 20gb one, will serve you better than a memory card.
no idea on costs though.

Mines would be online 24/7 if it wasnt for it being £40 a year or whatever..still seems a bit of a rip off to me, i'll just stiock to the trial cards i keep aquiring, i cant see any benefits to having the Xbox online other than for forza 3 when my PS3 is always online
I agree with Keith you can pick up a hard drive pritty cheep
I got the arcade one too but then bought 120g hard drive off eBay think you can pick up 20 g for about 30 40 pound
fifa 09!?! bin it and get fifa 10!
I'm too tight for that mate...
played it a few times at my bro's,
and its good, but its not different enough to pass up the previouse version preowned for a 5'er!!!!!
;)

dont cost £40 a year if you shop around man, even then if you do have to pay the full 40 its not bank busting amount of cash, works out to somthing daft like pennys per day, the money paid also goes back into the xbl service which is why its pretty bomb proof service with a lot of features just now and a whole load more to come,
me personally id be bored of gaming if it wasnt for the online factor of my 360

on the memory front a 20 gig hard drive you can pick up for cheapness now a days, plus if you ever do decide to put your 360 online you will have enough space for the data to be saved aswell, save you forking out for another means of memory for 2nd time round

Convice a Guy who has a Playstation online for free.. i just dont see the point in paying for it when 90% of xbox's games are on the ps3 aswell, even our Wii is online for free..
i just think xbox are screwing folk out of money for no reason because they know idiots will pay it, yes there is slight benefits recieved from paying it.. but none that you dont get from the PS3

I've played both consoles online and completely believe that the 360 is much better. I am happy paying for the service.
Also agree with Dava in that i'd also be bored of the 360 if it wasn't for the online capabilities. The only time i am ever on the computer is if someone gives me a text to say they are heading online and to see if i was gonna join them.
Regarding games to get? definitely get Operation Flashpoint. The best war game i have played that is so difficult that you won't complete it in a few minutes. One of the best strategic games i have played which is equally as good online.

I'd call the idiots the ones who sold their 360's for a ps3 then later traded that back in for an xbox cos they found the ps3 to be, putting it politely, not that good. I could name more than a few that I know have done so. lol
Offline and single player games i'd deffinately recommend getting are Fallout 3 and both Mass Effects.
The 1st mass effect had roughly 80 - 100 hours in the story, fallout 3 is very similar and these games will last you a long time. GTA4 is okay too, i'd recommend buying the game with the add on packs. Normally you'd be able to download these off the marketplace.
Give it a month or two and i'm sure you'll be on live too. I think i'd get bored without being connected to the live service. :)
ffs i wasnt wanting another argument on ps3 vs xbox..
what i was meaning is its a bit extortionate paying for Xbox Live when other consoles are free, remember GAMES consoles (which dont forget thats what these are) were generally aimed at kids when they first came out, now as technology has evolved we've been brain washed into believing these are Entertainment consoles..
Look at Microsofts yearly turn over.. their Games sector recorded a 60% rise in profits in the second quarter ending 31st december 2009, that in lamens terms equals a total profit of $6.7 billion, revenue climbed from $16.7billion to £19billion and That is ONLY Microsofts Gaming division.. not microsoft as a whole!!!
thats fucking INSANE figures during a recession, now you've seen those figures, ask yourself what are microsoft spending all that money on?? this whole thing of making a loss on each console is rubbish, there s nojustification in charging £40 for Xbox Live, Microsoft are one of the worlds leading companies which is why people are Dumb enough to pay the money,
If you want to get into the PS3 v Xboix debate for Runnign and Money costs look at these simple figures based on buying one game a year for 10 years and having online capabilities
Ps3 120gb Slim line £249.99
1 Game a Year £49.99 (Highest price simply for comparison)
Internet Charge - £0
after 10 Years £749.89
Xbox Arcade Version £129.99
1 Game a Year £49.99 (again comparison only)
Xbox Live £39.99 for gold (price taken from Xbox.com | Join Xbox LIVE (http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/live/Join.htm) who dont mention a discount for renewal)
Price after 10 years £1029.79
BEFORE anyone says it.. i couldnt give a flying shit which one is better, I own both i have mad eup my mind and i know which one i think is better... so dont give me any of that shite, this argument is purely on Microsofts lack of generosity
and thats being generous to the Xbox by using the basic Model rather than using an Equally specced or priced one to the ps3 ;) it all mounts up, i know myself i'll buy maybe 5 or 6 new games in a year, so that figure is a guide, Microsoft make all the money in the world and still wont give up anything for free, WHY???
And dont say its getting ploughed into Live.. because it doesnt cost $19 billions dollars to provide and online service like Live
Just as a side note, and not intending to add to the debate, i was just playing forza with a mate online. After racing him i had a look at my profile stats and discovered out of the $1.4 mil earnings i have made since starting the game $1 million of that is from online play.
It may be better than ps3, it may not. It doesn't matter. I just wouldn't be on the 360 nearly as much as i usually am if it wasn't for 360 live, even if it means i am paying £40 a year for it.
skipz what one would you use if/when psn start charging for online play?
its been hinted and touched apon a few times although nothing set in stone it still could happen,
iv played on both obviously not long on the playstation as i have on xbox, as it was just at a mates, and again im like you not wanting to get the topic going back to a ps vs xbox debate, just wondered which one you would go for if the ps wasnt free after all sony could start charging?
Dava in all Honesty.. the Xbox is good online, but i dont see any great overall benefits compared to the PS3, yes theres a couple of game son the os3 that dont like online gameply main one being gran turismo Prologue but its a bit unfair gauging an idea on the internet capabilities using a Demo of a game that the creators not even hapopy to release the full version yet
problem you have with the age old debate is... people arent comparing the same games, now i've played Fifa 09 online on both consoles... and i gotta say simply PS3 wins
Sony mkay start charging for the internet.. but thats only due to kaz's failure to get GT5 ready as believe it or not Gran turismo and SCEE are really damaging Sonys Revenue
but then that brings me back to my point.. why are these MULTI-BILLIONAIRE companies charging?
believe it or not Gran turismo and SCEE are really damaging Sonys Revenue
in what way are they damaging sony's revenue?
surely sony dont rely on one game to make money.
infact never mind, just try keep this on topic which is about xbox games, not debates between consoles, this thread shouldnt even have ps3 mentioned.
its always going to happen keith, i never intentiuonally set out for it to become a debate i'm just trying to figure out where Xbox and Microsoft justify such a cost ;)
I happily pay £29 for my yearly xbox live subscription. One of the highest up points for me is the dashboard we get. With all the shows and free stuff its extremely handy. And the most major point for me is party chat or just normal in game chat excellent reception where as the ps3 sounds like your having a party in a swimming pool.
£29 a year well spent in my opinion
the thing is, microsoft know ppl will pay, its more cash for them, yeah psn is free but as a whole xbox live delivers the whole package and most game downloads come out on xbox 360 first.
do add ons and the like cost money on ps3?
