View Full Version : New Xbox Features
Zune, Last FM, Facebook, Twitter, Sky Player.
anyone used them yet, had a look at Zune, seems to be a good selection of movies to rent although i dont know if i will use them when things are so easy to download.
also been messing around with Last FM, so far it seems pretty cool, seems to be having slight server issues as sometimes it wont connect then 2secs later its fine, not an xbox fault as i decided to register at last.fm and it was just as bad.
pretty good for just getting an idea of what you want to listen to and it just plays stuff i havent really heard before but is the same style (so far all i've searched for is Aphex Twin).
Facebook: i have a computer for this so i wont be using that on xbox either.
Twitter: not my thing
Sky Player: i have virgin so dont see any point in having this either.
but it is good to see more things coming onto the xbox.
i fear with xbox having to try keep up with the stuff the playstation can do itll fade away from the "gamers console"
i can/could see the point in most of these updates if it came out the box like this, but for folks that allready have an xbox they seem pointless -
skyplayer nice but as you can see everythings moving to h.d so imo folks would rather get a sky hd box or virgin hd box rather than good old standard sky which seems like all the xbox is streaming,
not tried this zune thing yet if you can stream and play it may be usefull
facebook/twitter - ill try it cause i can, but other than that i have a pc for this sorta stuff

you can stream i think but you are renting the films so they cost real money in the way of xbox points, prices vary and i'm not clued up on points to real money but i'm guessing its as much as £5 for a new release with the older films around the £3 mark (i could be totally wrong).
that was my mistake mate got zune and lastfm mixed up there,
Just checked out the facebook one although not really interested it. I have my laptop linked to my XBOX as i am using it to receive my internet signal so would rather just use that instead of the xbox.
Liking the idea of last fm and Zune so will check this out later on.
dont have facebook
dont have twatter
dont rent movies, i download them, stick them on this usb stick and play them via the xbox
we have sky in the living room but isnt worth it. same pish thats on all the time (mainly the movies). i prefer my built in freeview box.
microsofts new features dont interest me in the slightest, lol.
Facebook.. I'm right next to my pc anyways when i'm playing the Xbox and I have a Widget on my phone for Facebook and i can access it through the browser
Twitter/twatter/fatter dont bother with it
Zune.. Dont Rent movies and i certainly wouldnt do it from my Xbox either, prefer the old fashioned nip down to blockbuster/global for that shit...

How do you manage to run the files from the usb stick on the xbox, simple plug and play? I usually do this with home surround system but since I moved out I've missed it, would be handy if I was able to just use Xbox! :)

Plug and play mate, avi plays fine.. you do need to be connected to live to play them though as they download the codecs each time. It wont work if your external HD isnt formatted in Fat35 or something like that, i bought a terrabit external HD and needed to format part of it.
