HGV's and law regarding overnight parking

Do HGV drivers have to park overnight in designated areas, i see a lot around my village just parked up for the night, curtains drawn in the cab but obviously the driver still in bedding down for the night.

Normally, HGV's or LGV's park within the designtated operating centre of the 'O' Licence holder. However, they can park up elsewhere during a journey in order to take their required daily rest. If, as you say, this is a regular occurrence, then as long as there is no obstruction or danger caused by their presence, then there are no offences committed.
