At the moment I'm staying away from home at halls of residence. I've left my car at home and in the mean time the tax insurance and mot have run out/been cancelled/been sorned

When I get back for the Christmas break I was thinking about putting my car back on the road.

How do I go about this? I can't get tax because I don't have any of the paper work. I can't drive it to an mot garage because there is no insurance or tax.

Is the only option to trailer it to and from an mot garage and then get insurance and tax once it's passed and I have some of the paper work?

I've also heard that driving on a car that's been SORNed carries a mandatory custodial sentence. How much truth is there behind this?

Thanks

I would arrange for the insurance cover to start well in advance of your return home- then when you get home the documents will be waiting for you.

Secondly, book the MOT around the same time. You can drive straight to the MOT station under these circumstances because it's now insured.

Lastly, providing the car passes the MOT, get it taxed.

Thats what i would do. You could go down the trailer route, but the above is easier....

Yes, in certain circumstances, you could get a custodial sentence, but this is highly unlikely. A fine is the usual course of punishment.
