License plates

I've heard that it's now illegal or will be shortly to have license plates that don't have the garages postcode on them and if they are not the correct font/spacing which will mean a fail in your MOT. Could you tell me if it is now a MOT fail or if it will be in the future?

This has always been an offence under the Vehicle Excise and Registration act. It could mean a £30 fine per plate, reported to DVLA or a 21 day ticket to get new plates.

As for the MOT guidelines, it would depend on how bad they are.

This is another case of the law and the MOT not quite matching 100%, the same as tinted windows.
